BIFF SA engineers are at the forefront of new technologies and materials applied to the building envelope. The mastery of new developments is necessary to be able to design constructive solutions adapted to current needs, in terms of standards, functionalities or investments for example.

The study and analysis of the characteristics of new products and materials are basic elements in the field of innovation. It is also necessary to be attentive to any possible innovations regarding working tools or scientific developments presented at specialized conferences in the field. For this reason, BIFF SA has been participating for many years in international conferences and developing innovative solutions in collaboration with universities.

Patents

BIFF SA intends to distinguish itself by its ability to provide integral "made-to-measure" solutions, which is often necessary in the field of facades to ensure a design adapted to the construction or renovation project of the envelope.

In this spirit of research and innovation, the office's staff has succeeded in registering patents in the field of all-glass facades "structural glazing" and "Profil Design", which have been subsequently and widely used in several construction projects.

Many of the systems and solutions developed by BIFF SA employees have been tested, certified and approved without a patent being filed.

Innovation competition

In order to actively participate and promote innovative ideas, BIFF SA has created the Building Façade Innovation Challenge in 2019. The competition is developed in collaboration with the HSLU and is shared at European level in the Universities specialized in the field of building envelope.

Students or recent graduates have the opportunity to participate in this competition which focuses on façade innovations and innovative designs. Projects are evaluated by a multidisciplinary jury according to several key criteria.

An excellent opportunity to showcase unique facade thinking and innovation.

HSLU Collaboration

The contact with specialized universities is important to ensure a better follow-up of research and advances in the field of facades. The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Lucerne (HSLU) is developing several innovation projects to improve facade technology, materials, systems and design tools and software.

The objective of developing innovative projects requires an exchange of information and an increased collaboration with several actors. The collaboration of an office such as BIFF SA as a design office specialized in facades with the HSLU on the one hand, but also with material suppliers or builders is necessary to achieve increasingly innovative solutions to meet architectural and normative requirements.

For several years, BIFF SA has participated in the international conference "FACADE" on building envelopes organized by the engineering and architecture department of the HSLU.
